How to roast chestnuts in the fireplace?
Roasting chestnuts in the fireplace is a cozy tradition, ideal for the colder months.
Today, we'll show you how to do it.
Choosing chestnuts: choose fresh chestnuts with shiny shells and no holes. Before roasting them, make an 'X' cut in the rounded part to prevent them from cracking.
Preparing the fireplace: light the fire and let the embers get very hot, but without high flames. The ideal temperature is a medium ember.
Roasting the chestnuts: place the chestnuts directly on the coals or in a cast iron pan. If you place them directly on the coals, don't bury them completely. Stir the chestnuts occasionally to ensure they roast evenly.
Cooking time: the roasting time can vary between 20 and 30 minutes. When you start to hear the crackling, the chestnuts are almost ready.
Removing and peeling: carefully remove the chestnuts from the fire. Let them cool slightly and, while they are still warm, easily remove the shell.
IGNO tip: use a pair of tongs to make the process easier and avoid burning yourself!
Seasoning: if you like, you can season with a little coarse salt or olive oil for a special touch.
